Wat gebeurt er met onze bijdrage voor Ecuador?

Zoals jullie weten, heeft onze club een steun uitgebracht voor de slachtoffers van de aardbeving in Ecuador (zie informatie). Maar wat gebeurde er met onze bijdrage?

Monday 18 April

  • Team One, John Diksa & François Bieber (Orly Croix du Sud Rotary club), arrival in Quito less than 48 hours after earthquake
  • Welcomed at airport by Alfredo Maldonado , President of Quito Colonial Rotary club, and his wife, and kindly hosted at their home

Tuesday 19 April

  • Meeting with the deputy Head of Mission, Pierre Mattot, from French embassy in Quito
  • Statutory lunch meeting at Quito Colonial Rotary club where a family tent was erected by club members
  • Drive to Santo Domingo with Philippe and Guislain Wattel in a 4x4 pick-up with enough food and provisions for a week in the disaster area

Wednesday 20 April

  • Drive to San Vincente
  • Field assessments in Chone, San Vincente and Canoa
  • Night in tent in San Vincente

Thursday 21 April

  • Field assessments in Jama & Pedernales
  • In partnership with town authorities, two areas in the town of Pedernales identified as priority for our tents
  • Night in tent in San Vincente

Friday 22 April

  • Return to Pedernales to create list of 60 families most in need of our tents
  • Interview with journalists from France Inter and France Info national radio stations in France
  • Field assessments south of Pedernales
  • Decision made to send in Team Two, Jacques Bernier (Carcassonne-Bastide Rotary club) and Cyril De Lestang (Orly Croix du Sud Rotary club)
  • Night in tent in San Vincente

Saturday 23 April

  • Return to Pedernales to identify secure storage area for tents & to identify hotel for Team Two
  • Writing up of final distribution plan for 100 tents
  • Night in Solococo hotel, 20km north of Pedernales
  • Team Two arrival in Quito, welcomed at airport by members from Quito Valle inter Oceaniticos Rotary club • Night in Rio Amazonas hotel

Sunday 24 April

  • Team One retour to Quito in a police helicopter to santa Domingo and then a police car to Quito airport thanks to the Minister of Interior, Mr Serrano
  • Team One leave Quito and return to France
  • Team Two drive down to Pedernales with in a 4x4 with Rotarians Magdalene Santeli & Pilar Palacio
  • Arrival of tents in Quito end of day, and are cleared at customs thanks to the monumental work of Rotary and the French embassy
  • Night in Solococo hotel for Team Two

Monday 25 April

  • Arrival of tents in Pedernales and storage in secure place
  • Distribution of tents in 3 quarters of Pedernales, (1) Nuevo Amanecer (0°04’53”N, 80°03’07”W), (2) Divino Nino (0°04’47”N, 80°02’59”W), and (3) Las Palmitas (0°04’53”N, 80°03’15”W)
  • Night in Solococo hotel

Tuesday 26 April

  • Distribution of tents in 3 more quarters of Pedernales, (4) Brisas de Pacificio (0°04’30”N, 80°03’10”W), (5) rue Maria Tercera Etape (0°04’36”N, 80°02’08”W), and (6) Pedernales Nuevo (0°04’47”N, 80°03’30”W)
  • Distribution of 5 tents in Las Tecas (0°00’36”N, 80°04’40”)
  • Distribution of 2 tents at Caboyal (0°20’20”S, 80°21’34”W)
  • Distribution of 5 tents in Canoa (0°27’40”S, 80°27’26”W)
  • Night in San Vincente

Wednesday 27 April

  • Distribution of 2 tents in San Vincente (0°35’09”S, 80°24’36”W)
  • Distribution of 8 tents in De La Cruz camp (0°36’36”S, 80°25’39”W) with Rotarians from Bahia
  • Team Two return to Quito, hosetd by Rotary for night

Thursday 28 April

  • Meeting with the deputy Head of Mission, Pierre Mattot, from French embassy in Quito

Friday 29 April

  • Statutory breakfast meeting with Quito Interoceanitico Rotary club • Return to France for Team Two !

SOS Attitude cannot thank Rotary in Ecuador enough for the tremendous support and assistance we received in our de- ployment following the terrible earthquake that struck the country on Saturday 16th April. Keep up the great work for the coming weeks and months are going to be extremely hard for the hard-hit families in the disaster areas
